At a young age of only forty, Charles Owor accomplished what most of us could only dream of doing in a lifetime. He served his beloved country with such diligence and humility. In fact most of us were caught by surprise not only by his tragic and untimely death in a motor vehicle accident in Eldoret, Kenya on August the 10th 2000 but at how much he had achieved for the poor war torn nation of Uganda. Charles was able to accomplish so much because of his strong and committed faith in the Lord Jesus and his servant leadership and the love of democracy, justice, the law and humanity. Charles was a people person. He loved people of all walks of life, tribes and nation. Indeed Charles made followers of every tribe and nation. Charles Owor was involved in numerous non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
some of which he founded and sat on many boards of varied organisations in Uganda.
As a leader, he was never afraid to challenge the status quo even to great risk
to his own safety and life. Clearly he understood Luke. 12:4 -5: very well
It is from this background that we, his family felt that it would be necessary to continue some of the areas that he began. The Charles Owor foundation was created in his memory. The foundation strives to continue with the tremendous work of development that needs to be done in the impoverished nation of Uganda. The foundation will focus on several areas in order to reach its goals and objectives. These areas are Leadership, Civic and Environmental Education, Christian ministries and rural development particularly in Northern Uganda. We also seek to support organisations Charles founded, and others which have similar mandates. |
